Potentially this could mean that staff are unable to use the Autodesk software during crucial times of the year when they are preparing course material for the new year.ĪutoDesk please consider increasing the license length to slightly longer than 12 months to allow for Education providers to update their teaching environments from one version to the next. Under the new licensing model we would need to wait until January to be able to download the new license versions to ensure that the licenses don't expire part way through the year and there would then be a gap of up to several weeks between when we obtain the new licenses and when they are all packaged and ready for deployment to Computer Labs and staff.

We could keep the existing licenses running while preparing the new versions for release. The 3 year licensing model meant I could start packaging and testing the new versions of the AutoDesk software in September/October with an eye to releasing them to staff in November/December and pushing them to Computer Labs during January/February. I am responsible for packaging and deploying Autodesk software in an Educational environment and each year I have to upgrade our Computer Labs to the latest version of the AutoDesk applications. As an institution we do not want to update to a newer version of the Autodesk software part way through a year. While I can understand that Autodesk is trying to minimise misuse of its Education program I think that 1 year is too short to allow a reasonable turn around time for removing the old versions of its software and updating to the new version. AutoDesk has recently changed the term length for Education licenses from 3 years to 1 year.
